Universal to administer publishing for China's hits catalog

Universal Music Publishing China (UMP China), a division of Universal Music Publishing Group, announced on Tuesday that it had signed an exclusive, global publishing agreement with RYCE Publishing, the prominent publishing

division of RYCE Entertainment, one of China's leading music and entertainment companies.

With exclusive global administration for some of China's all-time bestsellers, the deal grants UMP China access to a massive catalog spanning over 700 songs, including tracks that have helped establish Chinese pop (C-Pop) as a global force. Those include "Manual to Youth" and "Adore," performed by TFBOYS; "100 Ways" and "I Love You 3000," co-written and performed by superstar Jackson Wang; "Jiao Huan" performed by Zhou Shen; and "Xiao Juan" performed by Tan Weiwei.

"We saw the rise of J-pop three decades ago and its massive influence on audiences across Asia. Now K-pop is a global phenomenon, as we all know, and there has been a very key bridging force between these genres in the last two decades," said Joe Fang, managing director of UMP China. "With China rising to become the sixth biggest music market in the world, I believe the time of C-pop is here. RYCE Publishing, with its hybrid talents and border-crossing catalogs, is a central piece of that next bridging force, and I'm thrilled that UMP China will play an instrumental role in supporting these future chapters of music history."

Through this new strategic representation, UMP China will provide global infrastructure and opportunities for RYCE's writers and artists to reach new audiences around the world. In addition, the company will work hand in hand with RYCE Publishing to further expand its roster of songwriters and producers and the projects available to them, according to the press release.

Also included within the catalog are hundreds of major K-pop hits performed by the likes of Super Junior, EXO-CBX, GOT7, TWICE, and more. Under the new deal, UMP China and RYCE Publishing will continually promote and amplify K-pop music culture in the Chinese market, based on its international success.

Wang Yunyun, managing director of RYCE Publishing, said, "We hope that everyone respects music copyrights. If we could all do that, every artist in China's music market would be motivated to work harder to make decent products, creating a healthy environment for us all."

UMP China has solidified its position as the leading music publisher in China's rapidly growing music market and has a long-term commitment to investing and developing local songwriters, connecting talented Chinese musicians to world-class songwriters around the globe.
