The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has risen to 35,233, health authorities in the Palestinian enclave said in a press statement on Wednesday.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli army killed 60 Palestinians and wounded 80 others, bringing the total death toll to 35,233 and injuries to 79,141 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out last October.

The statement noted that some victims remained under the rubble amid heavy bombardment and a lack of civil defense and ambulance crews.

Meanwhile, a young Palestinian man was killed by the Israeli army at the northern entrance to the city of Al-Bireh in the central West Bank, the Ramallah-based health authorities said Wednesday.

The 20-year-old man, identified as Ayser Safi from the Jalazoun refugee camp, was killed after the Israeli army shot him in his neck during clashes erupted with the Israeli forces, it said.

Local Palestinian sources told Xinhua that Safi was shot while he was protesting against the army on the 76th anniversary of the Nakba Day.

The Nakba Day is observed annually on May 15 by Palestinians to remember the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes after the establishment of Israel in 1948.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage.
