Serbian youths experience winter sports in Hebei

A study group of Serbian youths, comprising children of employees of HBIS Group Serbia and teachers and students of the University of Belgrade, University of

Novi Sad and University of Nis, came Tuesday to Chongli District, Hebei Province, to conduct research on China's winter sports industry and experience the culture of the Winter Olympics.

For many in the group, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway connecting Beijing and Chongli was their first taste of China's high-speed rail network.

"It's my first time to take a Chinese high-speed train. It feels really good. I'm pretty excited because I've heard that we're going to visit the place where the Winter Olympics have been held. I expect it to be fun and to learn something new," said Dunja Colic, a child of an HBIS Group Serbia employee.

From athletes' quarters to a ski resort, the post-Olympic utilization of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Village in Chongli gave the group a vivid lesson in China's sports industry.

"I couldn't wait to see the snow. And I'm really amazed. I like to look at the view at the mountains. It's amazing just thinking about being in the same place where the Olympians have been. And I think in the future, this will grow even more and become such a great place to stay and to be here," added Dunja.

Nicknamed "Snow Ruyi", the National Ski Jumping Center resembles the shape of a "Ruyi", a traditional Chinese ornament symbolizing good luck, and recently staged the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup.

"I'm amazed with that symbolic meaning of the shape of this building. I would like everybody to have that luck to see this live," said Antal Szilard, a professor from Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad.
