A Chinese government spokesperson on Friday voiced firm opposition to the inclusion of Taiwan-related content in a U.S. defense bill.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the

State Council, made the remarks when asked to comment on an agreement reached by the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives to include Taiwan-related content in the National Defense Authorization Act for 2023.

Zhu said that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the Taiwan question is a matter of China's internal affairs, which brook no external interference.

The U.S. move seriously breaches basic norms governing international relations, interferes in China's internal affairs, and violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques, Zhu said.

Zhu urged the U.S. side to immediately cease "playing with fire" on the Taiwan question and cease any form of military contact with China's Taiwan region.
